Dear Friends,

It’s been a couple of months now since we wrapped up our sojourn at the East Side Recycling Center. Since then a lot has been happening!

The Unitarian Universalist Society (formerly of Iowa City) is now in residence on Oakdale Road in Coralville. Our first Sunday service there was October 15. On October 29, 800 people attended our Open House, and enthusiasm has been high, with overflow crowds every Sunday morning.

Even though our Dance group has been in hiatus since October, a lot has happened with us as well. After much deliberation and consultation with our UU minister (Rev. Steven Protzman), we are now an official “group” within the local UU congregation. What this means, in practical terms, is that we will no longer request donations for attending our local Dance meeting. (Our expenses will be paid by the UU Society.) This will certainly simplify things for me and will, we hope, encourage more participation from Society members and others as well. I will be asking people to sign in just so we have a record of how many are attending each time. Hopefully, that will not be a problem for anyone.

Rev. Steven and I have also been discussing ways we might promote the Dances within the UU Society, including the possibility of presenting Dances during a Sunday morning service. I would love to hear any ideas you might have along those lines.

Having said all that, I would like to have feedback on everyone’s preference for a meeting time. Please get back to me right away with your comments so I can make plans for next year. Here are the options as I see it:

Continue to meet on Sunday evening as before:

Meet on Sunday afternoon at an earlier time: If so, what time would be ideal?

Meet on an evening during the week:

Because we now have an air-conditioned space, we have the possibility of meeting year-round. Would you be interested in meeting in the summer months?

I plan to start meeting again in January and looking forward to a very exciting new year of Dances.
